Music Video Debut

I’ve made my Chinese Ping Pong Music Video debut. With footage spanning 2 years, my friend Ken painstakingly put together this extraordinary ping pong video complete with slow motion and custom animations!!!

Note: I am actually in this video… I understand that you may be frightened by hearing foreign languages. I appear within the first 1-2 minutes.

Printing PDFs from the Command Line

I’ve been struggling for a while to get PDFs to print correctly using Adobe Reader from the command line, so here’s how to do it from a batch file:

:: This is a DOS-Style path to the AcroRd32.exe, in this case Adobe Reader 7.0
SET PATHTOADOBE=C:\PROGRA~1\ADOBE\ACROBA~2.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
:: This adds /h to tell Adobe Reader to minimize, and /p tells it to print the document to the default printer and close right after.
SET PRINTCMD=C:\PROGRA~1\ADOBE\ACROBA~2.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe /h /p
:: This will first launch Adobe Reader in a new process. NOTE: whatever directory you are in at this point,
:: Adobe Reader will only look for files here unless you supply full path file names.
call start /MIN %PATHTOADOBE% /h
:: ...
:: do stuff...
:: ...
:: Here is the actual call to print the PDF. Because Adobe Reader is already launched in its own process, the batch file will continue executing immediately after the command is invoked.
%PRINTCMD% "C:\myDocument.pdf"
:: Batch file will continue executing other commands

What Have I Been Watching?

Yeah I have a lot to say. I went to Japan and half my pictures got corrupted on my camera. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Dodgeball, other stuff. Really don’t feel like writing.

Here’s what I’ve rented since “Kamikaze Girls”. There are a lot of hidden gems here. I’m marking off my favorites with a pound sign. If it wasn’t my first time seeing it, I marked it with $.

Update from Phoenix

It takes two to tango; it only takes one to walk away.
It takes one to know one; but it takes two to play.

I’m writing to you in the comfort of my hotel room from Phoenix, Arizona. Its nice when you’re out for the day, and you come back to a made bed and replenished towels and soap. High speed internet access, a nice lounge chair, and high-speed internet. Yes, I could get used to “going away on business”.
The Lytec 007 VAR Summit is what brings me to Phoenix (actually held at the Hilton in Mesa). Its purpose is to bring resellers of Lytec, the Practice Management System for medical practices, together and demonstrate new product features and company goals. This year they have decided on a James Bond theme, because of the 007 in 2007.
All meals on thursday and friday (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are provided – very refreshing.
The summit will be over by Saturday at which point I’ll be going on an adventure to the Grand Canyon.
Its good to be a budding computer scientist and to be connected closely with physicians and practices – today alone I envisioned two possible software products (add-ons to what is already used) that could be quite beneficial and marketable to a range of customers. Whether I actually act upon those envisions and succeed later is anyone’s guess.

Palm trees all around.
